Bumblebees are re-housed without harm

On Friday we were called out to rescue bees that were found flying into the gap under the top floor window of a house in London SE22. After careful inspection of the loft area we located a very large bumblebee nest hiding under the loft insulation sheets. They had been there for some time and were using the insulation felt as their nesting material. The home owner is having that area refurbished. If the builder had crawled on it without a protective suit he could have been seriously injured.

The entire nest and bees was carefully removed and transported out to the countryside where they are now happily buzzing about undisturbed and safe.

I just wanted to say a massive thanks for your help with our bees nest on Friday. I rang several groups and bee keepers before finally finding you and your team - you were the only ones that I spoke to that sounded like you knew what you were doing, and I wasn't wrong!

I hope that the bumble bees you removed from our loft now have a nicer home wherever you took them!

Great Day at Covent Garden- Good Food Market

The Hive had a great day out meeting the public and spreading the word of Beekeeping! We had our 4th generation beekeepers on hand chatting to the children about the benefits that bees do for our planet. They helped the children roll their own free beeswax candles that were very well received in deed. Thank you to Covent Garden for inviting us.

Speakers Corner Event-Covent Garden Real Food Market

The Hive Honey Shop have been invited to Covent Garden to be featured as the local honey and bee expert who will talk about bee keeping, the benefits of using locally sourced honey, medicinal purposes and interesting facts on urban beekeeping.

We will be in the Covent Garden Piazza on Thursday August 13th from 1-1:30pm. We are providing a FREE beeswax candle rolling session for children. So they can take away their very own hand-made honeycomb candle on the day.

The food markets currently take place every Thursday from 12pm-8pm at Covent Garden and feature a range of delicious food produce stalls from some of the UK’s best traders including SJ Frederick & Sons (free range label Anglais Chicken), Northfield Farm (free range organic beef), The Flour Station and The Arabica Food & Spice Company to name a few.

The Speakers Corner will be running alongside the markets in August and will feature talks and demonstrations from experts across a range of really interesting food related topics. So write this date down now to come and meet us, find out more about bees & beekeeping or just to say hello!
